This Privacy Policy explains how Classroom Seating Chart (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use the Classroom Seating Chart application and website at classroomseatingchart.com (the “Service”). We built Classroom Seating Chart for teachers, so keeping classroom and student information private is a core commitment. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Who we are
Classroom Seating Chart is a web application that lets teachers build classroom seating charts: you create classes, add students, design room layouts, set seat-together and keep-apart rules, auto-seat students, and export charts to PDF. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. When you create an account we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. Authentication and account management are handled by our backend provider, Supabase.
- Classroom content you create. When you build classes, layouts, and seating charts, the content you enter is stored so we can show it back to you and sync it across your devices. This includes class names, student names, any notes you add, and the seating rules you configure.
- Payment information. If you upgrade to Pro, payment is processed by our payment provider, Dodo Payments. We do not see or store your full card details. We receive a confirmation that your payment succeeded along with limited transaction information needed to grant and record your purchase.
- Usage and device information. Like most websites, we and our analytics providers automatically collect technical information such as your browser type, device type, general location derived from your IP address, pages viewed, and actions taken in the app. This helps us understand how the Service is used and improve it.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
provide and maintain the Service, including saving your work and signing you in; process a one-time Pro purchase and keep a record of it; respond to your support requests; understand and improve how the Service is used; keep the Service secure and prevent abuse; and comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use student information for advertising or to build advertising profiles.
Student data
Student details exist only to help you arrange your classroom. As the teacher, you control that data and are responsible for having the right to enter it under your school's policies and applicable law. We act as a processor of student information on your behalf. You can edit or delete any student, class, layout, or chart at any time, which permanently removes the associated records. We do not use student information for any purpose other than providing the Service to you.
Service providers we use
We rely on a small number of trusted third parties to run the Service. Each receives only the information needed for its function and is expected to protect it:
- Supabase for authentication, database storage, and hosting of your account and content.
- Dodo Payments for processing Pro purchases.
- Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for usage analytics and understanding how the app is used.
- Crisp for in-app chat and support.
These providers may process data on servers outside your country, including outside India.
Cookies and analytics
We and our analytics and chat providers use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure usage, and provide support. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work correctly if you disable them.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your data while your account is active. Deleting a class removes its students, layouts, and charts; deleting your account from the Account page permanently removes your profile and all associated content. We may retain limited records, such as proof of a Pro purchase, where required for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes. You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing [email protected].
How we protect your data
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly in the app, or by contacting us at [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
The Service is intended for teachers and other adult educators, not for direct use by children. Student names and notes are entered by teachers to manage classroom seating, not collected from students directly. If you believe a child has created an account without authorization, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
